Every year, each incoming freshman is required to attend a 30-minute Information Security session as part of Orientation. The main goals of this session are to educate students on strong passwords, phishing attacks and the like, but it’s also a great opportunity to ask a captive audience questions about technology.

For the past four years, we have asked students about the mobile devices they are bringing to campus. The results are in for 2014, and the answer is the same as last year: students are largely bringing iPhones on the Verizon network. 80% of all incoming respondents, in fact, are carrying iPhones. These results follow the trends we have seen over time, and these statistics are likely to remain in place for the foreseeable future.
