On May 14-15, staff and faculty from Notre Dame and St. Mary’s met with staff from OIT, Kaneb Center, Office for Digital Learning and Apple for a 2-day intensive boot camp covering iTunes U and iBooks Author. The camp covered everything from how each tool can be applied to a university course and faculty were able to begin developing their courses with all the camp’s resources at their disposal.
The highlights of the boot camp were guest lectures from Nicole Kraft, journalism professor at Ohio State University, and Elliott Visconsi, professor of English and Law and Chief Academic Digital Officer at Notre Dame. Nicole spoke about her experiences with iTunes U and how she has re-invented her courses for today’s university student. Nicole’s courses are some of the most popular in all of iTunes U, including Writing and Editing for News and Media Law and Ethics. The information she shared was valuable for our faculty starting their iTunes U course development. Elliott spoke on his experience adapting his First Amendment course to iTunes U and how Notre Dame’s iPad lease program enabled his class to engage with the course material in a whole new way.
Staff from OIT, Kaneb Center, Office for Digital Learning and Apple will continue to support the camp participants, and mobileND is planning to conduct a second boot camp this fall. If you are interested in using iTunes U or iBooks Author in your course, please contact us.
